A cat wrangler has shared footage of the dramatic transformation a recently rescued kitten underwent after having a bath in her care.

Brooklyn-based photographer Heidi Systo regularly posts videos and pictures of the cats she helps rescue and rehabilitate in and around the New York area. Her TikTok videos rack up millions of views, with fans taken by Systo's clips of cleaning the often flea-ridden and understandably weary cats in her care.

Systo's clips tend to focus on her kitchen sink and a cooking pot that doubles as a cat bathtub. Each video showcases the patience and care she applies in nurturing these animals, many of which have been badly mistreated, back to something approaching full health.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals estimates that around 3.2 million cats enter animal shelters each year. While around 2.1 million end up being adopted, an estimated 530,000 cats end up being euthanized.

Harold the kitten, however, appears destined for a second chance at life.

In a strange sense, he's already leading a blessed existence. According to the caption accompanying the video of the kitten that was uploaded to the TikTok account heidiwranglescats, Harold was found "running through traffic on a highway" having been abandoned somewhere nearby.

By the time he had arrived with Systo he was already tired, dirty and, as the video shows, had a couple of fleas in his coat. Yet with just a little love and affection from his new human carer, Harold has been able to return to something approaching the bright-eyed kitten he was before his ordeal.

In the video, he can be seen enjoying a much-needed bath with Systo scrubbing at his fur and the dirt that was allowed to build up during his time on the streets. The cat wrangler's cooking pot is the perfect container for such a job; not too small to feel confining to the young kitty but not too big that they might wriggle around and try to avoid their much-needed wash.

Proof of just how much Harold needed his clean is provided in the closing moments of the clip, with Systo pouring away the muddied water left behind in his bath. The final seconds belong to the newly clean and fresh Harold, though, who appears ready and eager to begin life with a new forever family.

He's not likely to be lacking for suitors either if the response to Systo's video is anything to go by. At the time of writing the clip has been viewed over 5 million times, with cat lovers taking to the comments section to remark on the dramatic change to the kitten. Watch it here.

Maddlix_drws said: "He's a whole different kitty now look at the mood change," with aleighuejett writing: "At the start he looked so sad but now you helped, he looks so much better and clean."

Absolute_freakshow commented: "the poor baby, i'm glad you're looking after him," while lm_ok wrote: "He looked so much better afterwards! Thank you for taking care of him!"
